The revolutionary and linked tread grooves efficiently drain water and slush to lessen the risk of hydroplaning, and the resulting block design has a high level of lateral stability for confident handling and highway navigation.

The P Zero Winter applies the same performance-driven design concepts as its summer and all-season predecessors to the winter climate, giving a high-level driving experience in the snow, slush, and wet conditions, as well as on cold, clear pavement.

P Zero Winter tires have a performance-tuned winter tread compound molded into an asymmetric pattern designed to remain flexible and traction in freezing conditions. Deep transversal and shallow-angle channels interact with wide circumferential grooves to remove water and slush from the contact patch while boosting traction and braking.

Inboard tread components provide high-density lateral siping for traction in wet situations, as well as longitudinal sipes for lateral stability. The inboard and intermediate ribs are designed with zig-zag features to keep the snow in the grooves, increasing snow-to-snow traction. Further outboard, the tread components have a brickwork pattern siping, which improves longitudinal and lateral stability by producing more biting edges while keeping the form of the contact patch for clear road handling.

Winter Sottozero tires are designed for drivers of high-performance sports cars, coupes, and sedans who do not allow their passion for driving to wane in the winter.

Winter Sottozero tires make use of a cap and base tread compound technology, which mixes two distinct compounds. Pirelli's latest generation silanes are used to link the silica and polymer in the upper layer (cap) that comes into contact with the road surface, providing increased stability during severe driving in both wet and dry situations. To give the stiffness that improves stability and driving precision, the sub-strata in contact with the casing (base) uses nano-composites (aluminum silicates) scattered throughout the polymer.

To balance drivability on dry and wet roads with grip in light snow and on ice, the tread compound is molded into an asymmetric tread pattern divided into different outboard and inboard parts. More biting edges are provided by high-density siping, which improves snow traction, riding comfort, and noise quality. The interior structure of the tire incorporates Pirelli's super high-performance tire technology, providing levels of performance not typically associated with winter/snow tires.

Pirelli's Scorpion Winter Run Flat radial tire was designed for drivers of today's powerful premium crossover and sport utility vehicles. Scorpion Winter Run Flat tires are equipped with Pirelli's Self-Supporting Run Flat Technology, which improves safety and convenience by enabling temporarily extended mobility in the case of a puncture resulting in total loss of air pressure. Unless specifically specified by the vehicle manufacturer for Original Equipment tires, Pirelli's Self-Supporting Run Flat Technology allows a tire to literally "run flat" for up to 50 miles at 50 mph (80 km at 80 km/h).

Pirelli's Ecoimpact icons, which are stamped on the sidewalls, show the tire's environmental benefit in terms of energy efficiency, clean air, and low noise. Scorpion Winter Run Flat tires are designed to provide low-temperature winter driving performance by combining predictable handling on dry and wet roads with grip in snow and ice.

The Scorpion Winter Run Flat features a tread rubber compound that incorporates a new polymer blend and a larger quantity of silica components, which improves grip and handling in typical winter driving situations. To improve dry road performance, the tread compound is molded into a directional design with a rounder tread profile, modular center block geometry, and stable shoulders. Circumferential grooves aid in grip on wet and slushy roads, while snow booster ridges molded into the groove bottoms and multi-directional sipes bite into snow and ice.
